Leiden Institute of Chemistry of Leiden University

The Leiden Institute of Chemistry of Leiden University (The Netherlands) opens

two Ph.D. positions in the field of Electrocatalysis in the group of Prof. Marc Koper.

The positions are financed within the Marie Sklodowska Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) ELCOREL.

The successful candidates must have a Master degree* in Chemistry (Physical, Analytical), Chemical Engineering, or Physics, must be in the first 4 years of his/her research career and meet the mobility eligibility criteria as outlined by the Marie Curie ITN rules**. Experience in electrochemistry and electrochemical measuring techniques is an advantage.
The positions are intended for 48 months. The positions provide a monthly salary and also cover also the tuition fees for the enrolment in the PhD programme of Leiden University. PhD students are required to make a modest contribution in teaching to the Leiden BSc programmes in Chemistry.

The individual projects are focused on:
Project 1: Study, formulation and understanding of catalysts for the electrochemical CO2 reduction with specific selectivity to carbon monoxide, formic acid, methane and or methanol. The work will involve the usage of various in situ and online characterization techniques, and collaboration with computational researchers in the group and in the ELCOREL network.

Project 2: Study and understanding of electrolyte effects (pH, solvent, cations, anions) on the electrochemical CO2 reduction on selected electrocatalysts. The work will involve the usage of various in situ and online characterization techniques, and collaboration with computational researchers in the group and in the ELCOREL network.

Applications for the positions have to be submitted electronically.
Successful applications must contain
1) Structured CV (withlist of publication and scientometric data) including information on expected date of graduation
2) Motivation letter containing names and email of 2 references,
3) Certified copy of the MSc Diploma or Transcript of studies.

Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled; full attention will be guaranteed to the applications registered before May 1st 2017.
